Through my grandfather Kenneth KANALLEY, I have many ancestors from Ireland. They were from all across Ireland in each of the 4 historical provinces (Munster, Ulster, Leinster, Connacht), as well as Northern Ireland. Surnames of interest include:
BULGER, CALLAHAN, DEMPSEY, FITZSIMMONS, FLYNN, FRIEL, HART, HARTNEY, KANALLEY, KEALY, KEANE, KENNELLY, KILLEEN, McBRIEN, McGUIRE, McQUAID, MULVIHILL, NAVIN, O’NEILL, REILLY, SHORT, TRACY, WALLACE
Many of these families settled in Ontario, Canada around the time of the Great Potato Famine. Some of the lines settled in the United States of America. My direct paternal line migrated from Canada to the U.S. around the 1920s. I self-published a book about my Irish-Canadian ancestors called “Wallace Wounded” in 2016.
The counties of origin for my ancestors include Co. Limerick, Co. Galway, Co. Clare, Co. Cavan, Co. Wicklow, Co. Wexford, Co. Armagh, Co. Tyrone, Co. Fermanagh, and Co. Donegal.
